At B T M 1st Stage 320/2, the day starts with the sound of the metal shutters being rolled up. Chandru Enterprises is tucked away in a spot that gets a fair amount of foot traffic, but it still feels like a small corner of the world. The office area is just a couple of desks and some metal filing cabinets that have seen better days. I spend a lot of my time on the phone or typing away at an old keyboard that has a few sticky keys. We deal with a lot of different people, mostly folks from around the neighborhood or small contractors looking for supplies. The walls are painted a dull cream color and there are a few calendars hanging up to keep track of the weeks. We don't have a fancy waiting area, just a couple of plastic chairs near the door. The sunlight comes in at a sharp angle in the afternoon, making it hard to see the monitor for an hour or so. We usually take a break around three to get some tea from the shop downstairs. It's a lot of paperwork and checking invoices to make sure everything adds up at the end of the month. Sometimes the printer jams and we have to spend twenty minutes fishing out bits of paper. It isn't glamorous work, but it is what we know. We try to be helpful when people ask questions, even if we are busy with a delivery. It's just a regular workplace doing regular things.
