Down at Jayanagar 4th Cross, Lalbagh Fort Road 13/44, there’s our shop, Cell Pro. It’s a small place, mostly taken up by a long counter and a lot of tiny tools. We spend a lot of time hunched over, looking at cracked screens and small circuit boards. Phones are always coming in with some kind of problem, whether it’s water damage or a battery that won’t hold a charge anymore. We have boxes of spare parts stacked up against the walls and chargers hanging everywhere. It’s usually a bit cramped because we have so many devices waiting to be worked on. People come in looking stressed because they can't get to their messages, and we just try to see what can be done. It’s a lot of fiddly work with small screws that are easy to lose if you aren’t careful. We aren't a big chain store, so the atmosphere is pretty casual. We listen to the radio and talk to the people who walk in while we work. The area gets a lot of foot traffic, so there’s always someone popping in to ask a quick question about their phone. We don’t have any fancy marketing; most people just see the sign or hear about us from a neighbor. It’s just us here, fixing things one by one and trying to stay on top of all the new models coming out. We don't really have a lot of space for customers to sit and wait, so most people just leave their devices and come back later.
