Bhaireshwara Swami General Store

Being on Devasandra Main Road means there is a constant stream of cars and buses going by. At Bhaireshwara Swami General Store, the shelves are packed tight because space is hard to come by in Bangalore. I spend a lot of time just squeezing new stock into the gaps. The mornings are usually the busiest when everyone is trying to get their groceries before work. I have got this old wooden counter that has seen better days, but it is sturdy enough for the heavy rice bags. Sometimes the internet for the payment machine goes down, and then things get a bit slow and frustrating for everyone. I keep a stack of newspapers near the front for the older men who stop by in the morning. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but I have not found the time to do it yet. My day is mostly spent weighing out items or answering questions about what is in stock. The noise from the main road is like background music after you have been here a few years. I have a small stool behind the counter, but I rarely get to sit on it for long. It is a basic life, keeping track of inventory and making sure the shop stays clean enough. By the time I pull the shutters down, the street is finally starting to quiet down. It is a long day, but the routine is what keeps things moving.
