Over in Rajajinagar West, specifically at the Sarakki Industrial Layout, you’ll find Bapuji Wholesale Rice Mundy. We are located at number 4181/1 on the 15th Cross Road in the 3rd Phase. It’s a massive space because rice takes up a lot of room. There are stacks of burlap sacks piled high up to the ceiling. The smell of grain is the first thing you notice when you walk in. It’s a very physical job here; we spend the whole day hauling heavy bags onto trucks or moving them around to make space for new arrivals. Our clothes are usually covered in a fine white dust by the time we go home. We don't have a fancy office, just a small corner with a wooden table where we keep the ledger books. Everything is recorded by hand because that’s how we’ve always done it here. The workers have strong backs and they don’t complain much, even when the heat gets bad in the afternoon. We get customers coming in from all over the city, mostly shopkeepers who need to stock up for their own stores. It’s noisy with the sound of trucks backing in and out all day long. We start early, around six in the morning, and we don't stop until the last order is loaded. It’s hard work, but it’s honest and it keeps our families fed. We’ve been here for years.
