Old Kemanagundi Road is where we are located. The shop is 31/2 1 B, near the 10th Main and 3rd Block on Oosman Khan Road. Ayan Steel Suppliers deals with a lot of heavy stuff. If you come by, you’ll see piles of rods and sheets everywhere. It’s a bit of a maze inside. We spend our time measuring things and loading them onto small tempos. The air smells like metal and sometimes there’s the sound of a saw cutting through steel. It is a noisy neighborhood with a lot of hardware shops around us. We don't have a computer system that does everything. We use a thick book to record what goes out. The guys working here are strong and used to the heavy lifting. We wear old clothes because everything gets rusty or dirty pretty fast. Sometimes the traffic on Oosman Khan Road gets so backed up that the delivery trucks can't even move. We just wait it out and have some tea. It is a tough business because the prices of steel change and the work is hard on the back. But we have been here for a while and we know how to handle the material. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just supply steel to whoever needs it for their construction or repairs. It is hard work but it pays the bills and keeps the family going. We have been on this road for a long time and know everyone around here.
