Annapurna Rice Traders

Annapurna Rice Traders is based at Jakkur Post, number 578. We have a fairly large storage area where we keep different kinds of rice. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the dry, earthy smell of the grain. It’s a very simple operation. We buy rice from the mills and then sell it to smaller shops and individuals. Most of our day is spent hauling heavy sacks of rice around the warehouse. It’s hard on the back, but we’re used to it. We don't have a big team, just family members and a few workers who live nearby. Our office is just a corner of the warehouse with a desk and some old chairs. We do all our accounting in big ledger books. We don't use much technology here. Jakkur used to be much quieter, but now there are more buildings and traffic around us. Still, our spot at 578 stays pretty much the same. We don't do any marketing or sales pitches. People know we have good rice, so they come to us. Sometimes we have issues with the weather, like if it’s too humid and we have to worry about the stock, but we manage. We’ve been doing this for a long time and we don't really have any plans to change how we work. It’s an honest way to earn a living and we like the people we deal with. We just focus on getting the rice ready and out the door.
