Running Ananda Steel Traders out on Banneraghatta Road is a lot of work. We are tucked away at 41609, right behind Janak School. You can usually hear the kids playing during their lunch break while we are loading up the trucks. The air is always a bit metallic and dusty because of all the steel moving around. It’s heavy work and my hands are usually covered in some kind of grit by ten in the morning. The warehouse isn't exactly tidy, but I know where everything is kept. We have stacks of pipes and sheets that reach almost to the ceiling. It gets hot under the tin roof during the summer months, so we keep a few big floor fans running constantly. They don't do much except move the warm air around, but it’s better than nothing. I’ve been at this spot for a long time. The road out front is always jammed with traffic, which makes deliveries a bit of a gamble. Sometimes the trucks are late and sometimes they’re early, you just never know with Banneraghatta Road. We don't have a fancy office, just a small cabin with a desk and a couple of plastic chairs for visitors. My ledger is full of scribbles and coffee stains. It’s a straightforward business, no need for anything more than the basic stuff to get the job done each day. I just want to finish the orders and go home.
