Ali Marriage Bureau

Ali Marriage Bureau has been operating out of this spot in Tilak Nagar for quite some time now. The office is easy to find if you know the area, but the 41335 zip code part can be a bit confusing for some of the older folks. It’s a small room with a heavy wooden door that sticks a bit when it rains. Inside, there are drawers full of biodatas and old photographs that people have brought in. We don't use fancy computers for everything; sometimes just writing things down in a big register feels more reliable. The street outside is always loud with scooters and people shouting, but it’s quiet once you step inside. We have these blue plastic chairs for people to sit on while they tell us what they are looking for. It is serious work, helping families, and we take it one day at a time. Sometimes a mother will come in and stay for an hour just talking about her son. We listen. That is a big part of what happens here. The walls are painted a dull cream color that has faded over the years. We keep a small stove in the back for making tea because you can't really talk about marriage without a hot drink. It isn't a flashy business. We just stay here in Tilak Nagar and try to keep the records organized as best as we can. It’s a quiet life, but it’s our life.
