Basavanagudi is a busy place and we have been here at MG Road 2 for a while now. Akshya Veg is just a small spot where we make food for the people around here. It usually starts pretty early in the morning when the vegetables arrive and the stove gets turned on. We don't have fancy decorations or anything like that. The chairs are just regular chairs. Most of the people who come in are locals who live nearby or work in the shops down the street. We try to keep things clean and the food hot. Sometimes it gets really crowded around lunch time and there isn't much space to move, but people don't seem to mind much. We just focus on the cooking part. My cousin helps out with the accounts and a few boys from the village do the serving. It is a lot of work every day. We don't really have a big plan for the future, we just open up and do the same thing every morning. If you walk past the second building on MG Road, you will probably see the sign. It’s nothing special to look at from the outside. We use a lot of lentils and rice because that’s what we know how to make. The water gets boiled, the rice gets steamed, and we repeat it until the shutters go down at night. That is just how life is here in Basavanagudi.
