Abdul Malik

My place is at 14 Lingarajapuram, specifically in Muniramaiah Garden, right opposite the high school. You can hear the school bell ring every day and the kids shouting during their break times. Abdul Malik is the name on the board, but most people just call me Malik. I’ve been in this garden area for many years. The office is small and it's mostly filled with things I’ve collected over time. There are some old cabinets and a calendar from three years ago that I never bothered to take down. It’s a very local operation. I don't have a secretary or a marketing plan. I just sit at my desk and help whoever walks through the door. Lingarajapuram has changed a lot since I first moved here, with more buildings and traffic, but this street stays mostly the same. I know the people who run the shops nearby, and we often talk about the neighborhood while having tea. The work I do is mostly paperwork and helping people with their local needs. It’s not anything grand or complicated. I use a very old pen and a lot of paper. Sometimes the lights flicker when the weather is bad, but we just keep going. It’s a quiet life, really. I like being across from the school because it makes the area feel alive. I don't need much more than this small space.
