Design & Desire

Our shop is over in Bhattarahalli, tucked away on the 2nd Cross of 1st Main. It’s a small space filled with rolls of fabric and catalogs that have seen better days. We spend most of our time talking to people about what they want their homes to look like. Sometimes they have big ideas that won’t fit in their rooms, and we have to figure out a middle ground. It’s a lot of measuring and remeasuring. The light in the shop isn't great in the evening, so we try to do all the color matching before the sun goes down. We have one old computer that we use for the accounts, but most of our drawings are still done by hand on bits of paper. It’s messy work with all the dust and scraps of wood or cloth everywhere. The neighbors are mostly other small businesses, so it’s a bit noisy during the day with the traffic from the main road. We’ve been in this building for a few years now. The fan in the back room makes a clicking sound that we’ve just gotten used to. We aren't a big firm with hundreds of employees, just a few of us trying to get things built right. People find us mostly by walking past or hearing about us from someone else in the neighborhood. We just keep our heads down and work on whatever project is on the table that week.
