A R General Stores

You can find us right on the Varthur Parimal Railway Crossing Road. The location is quite easy to spot because of the trains passing by every so often. It can get a bit noisy when the whistle blows, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We sell all the basic things you’d expect from a general store. Milk, bread, pulses, and some household cleaning stuff. The shop is small but we pack it full. I’ve lived in this area for a long time, so I know most of the people who stop by. It’s mostly families living nearby and some workers from the local sites. The rain sometimes leaks a bit near the front door during the monsoon, so we have to move the grain sacks back. We keep a stool by the counter for when things are slow and we can just sit and watch the street. My brother comes in during the evenings to help out when the crowd gets bigger. We don’t stay open very late, usually closing up by eight. The shelves are wooden and a bit worn out now. We keep thinking about painting them but never get around to it. It’s just a normal neighborhood shop. Nothing fancy, just a place to get what you need without a fuss. We've been here for a good while and the people around here are mostly nice to deal with.
