Tata Refractories Ltd.

This location is over at G/21 in the Gomadera part of the TRL Township. It’s known as the K.C. Patnaik quarter, though it’s used for Tata Refractories Ltd. business now. Belpahar is a busy industrial hub, and Gomadera is one of those spots where you really feel the pulse of the company. We are right in the middle of where the staff lives, so there is always someone popping in with a question or a form that needs signing. It’s a simple brick building, nothing special to look at, but it’s where the real work happens away from the heat of the kilns. We deal with the refractory side of things, which is basically making sure the steel plants have the linings they need so they don’t melt through their containers. It’s a lot of talk about temperatures and materials like silica and alumina. Our office is a bit cluttered, to be honest. There are samples of bricks on the shelves and maps of the township on the walls. We don't have a receptionist; you just walk in and find whoever is at their desk. The weather in Orissa can be brutal, so we have the fans going full blast most of the year. It’s a straightforward way of living. We know the people we work with and we know the materials we handle. It’s just a regular day in a regular industrial town, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
