Burnpur is a town that really feels like it belongs to the industry. Being here in Asansol, you can’t really escape the sight of the tall structures and the smoke in the distance. We are based out of the Isp area, and it’s a massive place to navigate if you don't know your way around. The shifts are long and the work is constant because the furnaces don't really stop for anyone. I remember when I first started, the scale of everything felt overwhelming, but now it’s just where I spend most of my waking hours. The roads inside are long and we spend a lot of time just getting from one section to another. It’s hot work, especially in the summer months when the air feels thick and heavy. We mostly talk about the daily output and which machines are acting up this week. Everyone here wears boots that have seen better days. It isn’t the kind of place for clean clothes or quiet conversations. We have our tea breaks in small corners away from the main noise. Sometimes we just sit and watch the railway wagons move past. It’s a rhythmic kind of life. People from the nearby districts come here for work, so there is always a mix of languages and stories. Burnpur has its own pace, and we just try to keep up with it every single day without complaining too much.
