About Sail-Iisco Steel Plant – Metals & Minerals in Bardhaman
Living and working around the Sail-Iisco Steel Plant in Burnpur is a specific kind of life. We are located in the Asansole area. The plant is huge and it dominates everything around here. My father worked here, and now I do too. It’s a place of fire and heavy machinery. The noise of the furnaces and the clanging of metal is something you hear even when you go home at night. It’s not a clean job; there’s soot and dust everywhere, but it’s what keeps the town going. Burnpur wouldn't be the same without this place. We produce a lot of steel that goes all over the country. The shifts are long and the work is physically demanding. We don't have fancy offices; we spend most of our time on the shop floor or in the yards. The township nearby is where most of us live. It’s a tight community. We don't talk much about visions or goals. We just talk about the next heat or if the machinery is holding up. It’s an old plant with a lot of history in every brick. Sometimes things break down and we have to scramble to fix them. That’s just part of the deal. We take pride in what we do, even if it’s just making sure the rails are straight or the beams are right. It’s hard, honest work in the heart of West Bengal.
