Sipu Farmers Producer Company Limited is located over in Jat village in the Dhanera area. We use Premshankar Thonaji Rajgor’s place as our address. It’s a quiet village out in Banas Kantha. Most of us have lived here our whole lives, so we know every corner of the fields. We started this producer company because it’s hard to do everything alone when you’re just one farmer. Now we pool our stuff together. The office is just a simple room at Premshankar’s, nothing special. We meet there to talk about what we’re going to plant each season. Dhanera can be a tough place with the heat, so we usually get started well before the sun comes up. We aren't trying to be some big national company. We’re just local guys from the village. We handle our own seeds and we try to get a decent price when we take things to the market. It’s a lot of physical work and sometimes the paperwork gets a bit confusing for us, but we manage. We don’t have any marketing people telling us what to say. We just say it like it is. If the crop is good, we’re happy. If it’s a bad year, we just hunker down and wait for the next one. That’s just the way life goes when you’re farming in this part of Gujarat. We’re just Sipu Farmers, nothing more, nothing less.
