Dulal Bricks

Dulal Bricks is located out in the Biharpur area, right near the post office in Nodhia. We are part of the Kanksa police station jurisdiction in Durgapur, over in the West Burdwan district. While it is a bit of a long drive to get out here from the main city, the space allows us to do our work properly. The dirt road often gets very muddy during the monsoon season, making it tricky for the heavy trucks to get in and out. Almost all of our time is spent working out in the open air. In this rural setting, things move a little bit slower than they do in the city center. A fancy corporate structure or management team is not something we have here. It is mostly just a few of us making sure that the daily production stays steady. Watching the weather is a big part of the job because it dictates everything. If a sudden storm starts coming in, everyone drops what they are doing to go and protect the raw bricks from the water. We use a lot of local labor, and most of the workers live just a short walk away from the yard. Polished sales pitches aren't used here. We just show people the bricks and let them decide for themselves. Our records are kept in simple notebooks that usually have a few clay fingerprints on them. Physical labor is hard, but we have been part of this community for many years now.
