Shankar General Store

You can find Shankar General Store in Tehsil Pura, right near the Devgan Clinic. It is a handy spot because people often need things after they visit the doctor. We have been in the Main Bazar here in Amritsar for years. It’s a simple setup. I have wooden shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. I have to use a ladder sometimes to reach the stuff at the top. We sell the usual household items, soap, matches, and cooking oil. The street outside is narrow, so it gets congested with rickshaws and carts. I usually start the day by sweeping the front step. The clinic brings in people from all over, not just our neighborhood. They might need a bottle of water or some tissues. I don't really have a big staff, just me mostly. I like the routine of it. Checking the stock, talking to the wholesalers, and making sure the jars are full. It is a bit cramped inside, but that’s just how shops are in this part of town. I don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are. We have been here through many changes in Amritsar. The town gets bigger, but our little corner of Tehsil Pura stays pretty much the same. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s honest work. I just try to have what people ask for. The light inside isn't great, but we know where everything is kept.
