Sahil General Store

Sahil General Store is located in Amritsar, specifically in the New Kot Atma Ram area near the Gurdwara. Being near the Gurdwara means there are always people walking past, especially in the mornings and evenings during the prayers. The shop is tucked away in the Main Bazar and it is packed with everything a household might need. We have stacks of flour bags in the back and shelves full of tea, sugar, and spices in the front. The ceiling is low and we have a small fan that wobbles a bit while it spins. It gets quite cold here in the winter, so we usually wrap up in blankets while we wait for customers. In the summer, it's the opposite and we drink a lot of cold water. We keep a small stool behind the counter to sit on during the quiet hours of the afternoon. The neighborhood is mostly families and we know which brand of soap or which type of lentils each person prefers. Sometimes children come in with a few coins to buy some sweets from the plastic jars. We don't have any fancy displays or bright neon signs. It’s just a regular store with a blue door that stays open until late at night. We do our own cleaning and stocking every day. It is a simple life running a shop in this part of town and we stay busy enough.
