Ram Parkash General Store is right at the heart of things at Shop No. 7, Khandwala Chownk. Being on GT Road in Amritsar means there is never a quiet moment. We are situated right at the main chownk, so the traffic is constant and the noise is just part of the background now. Our shop has been here for a long time, and we’ve seen the chownk change as more buildings went up. We sell all kinds of general goods. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the inventory, especially since we get so many people passing through. We aren't just serving the locals; sometimes travelers stop by too. The shop floor is often covered in footprints from the street, but that’s just how it is. We spend our days behind the counter, handing out change and packing bags. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside when more than three people are standing there. We have stacks of boxes in the back and items hanging from the ceiling hooks to save space. We don’t have a website or any fancy marketing. We just rely on being in a good spot where people can see us. Every day is pretty much the same—open the gate, sweep the front, and wait for the morning rush. It’s a steady life, and we’ve become a permanent fixture of Khandwala Chownk over the years.
