You can find Rakesh Karyana Store on Fathegarh Churian Road in Amritsar, very close to Preet Hospital. Being near a hospital means we see a lot of different people every day. We mainly focus on karyana items, which means we have a lot of pulses, spices, flour, and rice. The shop smells like a mix of cumin and turmeric because we keep a lot of the spices in open containers or large bags. It’s a busy road, and the noise from the traffic never really stops until very late. Rakesh usually stays behind the counter, weighing out portions of lentils or sugar on the electronic scale. We have some old glass jars where we keep colorful candies for the kids who come in with their parents.
