Paramjeet General Store

Paramjeet General Store has been a part of Nikka Singh Colony for many years. We are located in the Main Bazaar, and since Khalsa College for Women is right nearby, we see a lot of students coming in for snacks or pens and notebooks. It’s a busy little corner of Amritsar. The shop is filled from floor to ceiling with all sorts of things. We have the usual grocery items like dal and spices, but also things like shampoos, soaps, and even some small gift items that the college girls sometimes buy. The building itself is quite old, so we are always fixing a leaky pipe or painting a bit of the wall to keep it looking okay. It’s just me and a couple of helpers most days. We don't have a big computerized system or anything, we just write things down in our register book. Sometimes the street gets blocked by a stray rickshaw, and everything slows down for a while, but that’s just how life is in the bazaar. We know most of our neighbors by name, and we know who likes which brand of tea or which specific spice mix. It’s a simple way of living. We don't have fancy lights or big signs, just a regular shop where you can get what you need for the kitchen or the house. In the winter, it gets quite cold in the mornings, so we keep a small heater behind the counter. It’s just a regular neighborhood spot for everyone.
