New General Store

Ram Bagh is a busy spot. Our shop, New General Store, is at number 7. We are right by the Shiv Mandir. You can hear the bells sometimes during the day. It’s a basic shop in Amritsar. We sell things like soap, snacks, and other bits and pieces people forget on their big grocery trips. The space isn’t huge but we fit a lot in. It’s been here for a bit now. Sometimes the lighting is a bit dim in the back corner. We spend a lot of time just talking to the people from the neighborhood. It’s not like those big supermarkets where nobody knows you. Here, we see the same faces every day. Amritsar 143001 is where we belong. The street outside is usually full of bikes and people walking to the temple. Running a store like this means you don’t get many days off. You have to be here to open the shutters. We keep an eye on what’s running out and try to order more before it's gone. It’s mostly manual work, moving boxes and checking labels. It isn't a glamorous life but it's our life. We just try to keep things moving and help out the locals who need a quick item without going too far. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to stay inside all day but we manage it fine. Our counter is old wood and the jars are mostly plastic, but it serves the purpose for everyone around Ram Bagh.
