Mahajan Provision Store

Mahajan Provision Store is located in the Putlighar area of Amritsar, specifically on Cementary Road in the Main Bazaar. It’s a busy spot and we have been part of this neighborhood for a long time. The shop is filled with the smell of different spices and grains because we keep them in large open bags sometimes. It takes a lot of effort to keep the place organized when so many people are coming in and out asking for different things. We spend our mornings lifting heavy sacks and making sure the jars on the higher shelves are reachable. The counter is old and the wood is worn down where people rest their hands while waiting. We don't have any fancy decorations. We just focus on having the pulses, rice, and flour that everyone needs for their daily meals. Sometimes the rain leaks in a little near the back door, so we have to be careful where we put the cardboard boxes. It’s a lot of simple, repetitive work but it keeps us busy. You get to know who likes which brand of tea and who always forgets to bring their own bag. We stay open until the market starts to quiet down at night. It’s just a honest way to make a living and we are used to the rhythm of it.
