If you are heading down Court Road in Amritsar, you will find us at shop number 53, right near the petrol pump. It is a convenient spot because people often stop for fuel and then realize they need something for the house. We have been operating this karyana store for years. It is a bit of a tight squeeze inside because we try to stock as much as possible. We have the usual staples like pulses, cooking oil, and tea leaves. The shelves are wooden and look a bit old now, but they hold up the heavy jars just fine. Being close to the petrol pump means it gets quite busy with cars and bikes all day long. Satish and I are usually here from morning until late evening. We do not really have a break in the middle of the day because someone always needs a packet of salt or some sugar. The floor is concrete and we sweep it out every morning before the first customer arrives. We do not use a lot of technology, just a basic scale and a calculator for the totals. Sometimes we have to move the heavy sacks of wheat around, which is a lot of work, but it keeps the inventory moving. It is a straightforward business and we know most of the regular faces who come through. It is just how we make our living here in the city and it keeps us occupied throughout the seasons.
