Sadar Bazar in Amritsar is one of those places where you really have to watch where you're walking. Hardeep General Store is tucked away at Shop No 11 in the Ldh Market area. It’s a tight space, and the lanes outside are always filled with people and carts. Amritsar - 143001 is where we’ve always been. The shop is old, and the wooden shelves have seen better days, but they hold up the weight of the goods just fine. We sell everything from soaps to pulses. It’s a busy life. We usually have a cup of tea sitting on the counter, getting cold because we are busy serving someone. There’s no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that makes a clicking noise. People come in to chat as much as they do to buy things. We know everyone’s family history around here. It’s not just about selling stuff; it’s about being part of the bazar. The noise from the main road filters in, but you stop noticing it after a few years. We keep things simple. No fancy computers, just a notebook where we write down what we need to order next. Sometimes the electricity goes out, and we use a torch to find things for the customers. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, but it’s our mess. We just do our work and go home to our families at night.
