If you go down to Ram Bagh Chowk in Amritsar, you’ll find us right near the Police Station. Chhabra Karyana Store has been a part of this neighborhood for a long time. We deal in all kinds of groceries and household items that people need for their daily lives. Amritsar is a busy place, and Ram Bagh Chowk is always full of traffic and people, so there is never a quiet moment. We stock pulses, rice, sugar, and all the usual karyana stuff. The shop is old and we haven't changed much over the years, because the way we do things seems to work well enough for our customers. We aren't big on decorations or fancy displays. The shelves are mostly just filled with whatever came in on the last truck. It’s a lot of lifting and moving bags around, but that’s the job. We know most of the people who come in by name since they’ve been shopping with us for a long time. It’s just a small family business, nothing more. Sometimes the stock takes a while to arrive, especially when the roads are busy, but we manage. We just want to make sure the locals can get their salt and lentils without having to go too far. It’s a simple life running a shop in Amritsar. We spend our mornings cleaning the jars and checking the weights. We don't have any help, it's just us working through the heat and the dust.
