Cheap General Stores

If you head into the Main Bazar in Pultighar, Amritsar, you’ll find us. We’re called Cheap General Stores, and we are tucked right inside the bazar area. It’s a very crowded part of town, with carts and people everywhere, but that’s the spirit of the market. Our shop has been around for ages. We aren't fancy, and we don't have air conditioning or anything like that. It’s just a place where you can find almost anything for the house. The name says "Cheap," and we really do try to keep our prices low so the local families can afford what they need. We have stuff hanging from the ceiling and piled on the floor because the shop is quite narrow. Navigating the aisles can be a bit of a squeeze, especially on weekends when the bazar is packed. We don't have a team of workers, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. If you ask for something, we can usually pull it out from a hidden corner pretty quickly. Living and working in the Pultighar bazar means you get used to the noise and the constant movement. We open when the rest of the market opens and we don't leave until the last customer is gone. It’s a busy life, but we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves if it was quiet. We just keep moving and serving the people who walk through our door every day.
