Bedi Karyana Store

If you walk down Street No-20 in Kot Mangal Singh, you’ll find us right near the big water tank. Bedi Karyana Store has been on this plot for a while now. It’s a typical neighborhood shop where we sell things people need for their kitchens and homes. We know most of the people who come in because they live just a few houses away. My family and I take turns behind the counter. It’s a lot of lifting bags of flour and counting out change. The shelves are usually pretty packed, and sometimes it's hard to find exactly what you're looking for without asking. We don't have a computer system or anything; we just use a ledger and our memory. It gets busy in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work and realizes they forgot to buy milk or sugar. We hear a lot of stories from the neighbors while they wait. It’s a good way to stay connected to what's happening in the area. Sometimes the delivery guys are late and we have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s not a perfect system, but it works for us. We’re just a small part of the street, trying to be useful. It’s hard work being open so many hours, but we like seeing the familiar faces every day.
