If you walk through Shimla Market in the Putlighar area, you’ll find us near Ashok Di Hatti. Amritsar gets very cold in the winter months, and the shop feels even smaller then with all the crates stacked up inside. We’ve been running this general store for a long time now. It’s mostly just shelves filled with tea boxes, snacks, and jars of sweets for the local kids. We don't use a computer for our accounts; everything is still written down in the old registers with a pen. The market is always buzzing with people, and the noise from the street never really stops until late at night. Sometimes we forget to order something and have to run to the wholesaler ourselves on a scooter. The light in the back of the store is a bit dim, so we usually have to use a torch to find things tucked away on the top shelves. We have a lot of regular customers who come by just to chat for a few minutes while they buy their groceries. It’s a simple setup with a wooden counter that has seen better days. We don’t really think about things like growth or expansion. We just want to make sure the neighborhood has what it needs. It’s a lot of standing around and moving heavy boxes, but that’s the life of a shopkeeper in a place like this.
