Anmol General Store

Our shop is at Booth Number 24 in Ranjeet Avenue, Block A, right near Parvati Devi Hospital here in Amritsar. Being so close to the hospital means we get a lot of people coming in for things like juice, biscuits, or basic toiletries while they are visiting relatives. It’s a small booth, but it’s in a good spot. I've been running this place myself for several years. It can get a bit lonely during the quiet hours of the afternoon, so I usually listen to the radio or talk to the other shopkeepers nearby. We carry most of the daily essentials people might need in a hurry. The shelves are made of wood and I painted them blue a long time ago, though the paint is mostly gone now where the cans sit. I don't have a fancy billing machine, just a calculator and a pen. Sometimes I run out of change, which is a bit embarrassing, so I have to go to the tea stall next door to break a big note. We don't have any big signs or posters in the window. It’s just a plain glass front where you can see what’s on the shelves. It’s a honest way to make a living and I enjoy the daily routine of opening up and sweeping the front step. Most days I stay open until nine or ten if there are people still around.
