We are located in Kothara Kalan, which is part of the Sultanpur district. Pratappurkamaicha Farmer Producercompany Limited is a name we use for the official side of things, but to everyone here, we’re just the local farming group. We work out of Gaya Pd Singh’s place. Sultanpur is a place where people really know the value of hard work. We don't have a lot of time for fancy talk. Our days are filled with looking at the weather reports and checking on the crops in the fields. It’s a collective effort, meaning we all pitch in when someone is falling behind. Sometimes we have meetings to discuss what seeds to buy or how to handle the irrigation. It’s very down-to-earth. We don’t pretend to be something we’re not. We’re just trying to get a better handle on our own livelihoods. The village life in Kothara Kalan is steady, but farming always brings some kind of surprise. You might have a great plan on Monday and by Wednesday, the weather has changed everything. We just adapt and keep moving. We don't have any polished brochures or anything like that. We just have our reputation among the neighbors and the work we do every day. It’s about being practical and helping each other stay afloat in a business that can be really tough some years. We just take it as it comes.
