Rajeev Iron Traders

Rajeev Iron Traders is tucked away in the Brahmpuri area, on Kabir Marg near Kaiser Gunj. It’s an older part of the city, and the streets can get a bit narrow when the big trucks come in. We deal in all sorts of iron and scrap metal. It’s a heavy business. We spend the day weighing things and moving piles of metal around. My father started this business a long time ago, and I’ve been here since I was a kid. It’s changed a bit over the years, but the core of it is still the same. Iron is iron. It’s dirty work and your hands are always stained by the end of the day. We have a scale out front that sees a lot of use every single hour. People from all over the neighborhood come by with bits of metal or contractors looking for supplies for a building project. We don't have a computer system that’s very modern; we still use a lot of paper and pencils for our tallies in the ledger books. It works for us. The noise of metal clanging is the soundtrack to our lives here. Sometimes it’s a bit chaotic, especially when multiple people want things at once and the trucks are blocking the lane. We just handle them one by one. It’s a local shop for local people. No big speeches, just honest trading and making sure the weights are right every time we load up a customer.
