This place is out on the road toward Mangaliyawas from Pushkar. It’s a good spot because a lot of people are traveling between the towns and they get hungry. We called it Foood Joint, with the extra 'o' just because that’s how the sign ended up looking when it was made. It’s a plain building, nothing that would catch your eye if you weren't looking for a meal. We serve mostly local plates, things that are easy to cook and fill you up. The kitchen is right there in the back, and you can usually hear the pans clanking throughout the day. I do most of the cooking myself, and a cousin helps with the tables. We have some wooden benches that have seen better days. It gets dusty being so close to the main road, so I’m always wiping down the surfaces. We don’t have a massive menu. We just make a few things every day and when they’re gone, they’re gone. It’s mostly truck drivers and families passing through who stop here. It’s not the quietest place to sit, but it’s honest food. The lights flicker sometimes when the power acts up, but we keep some candles handy. It's just a roadside stop for people who need a break from driving. We keep it simple and try to make sure nobody leaves with an empty stomach. That’s about all there is to it for our little roadside joint.
