Greenstone Farmers Producer Company

Over in Parner, the ground can be pretty tough, which is maybe why we called ourselves Greenstone Farmers Producer Company. We’re based in Alkuti, specifically at house number 1516. Ahmednagar is a dry place, so water is always on our minds. A bunch of us farmers here decided it was better to work as a team instead of everyone just struggling on their own. We deal with all sorts of produce, trying to find better prices than what the local middleman offers. The office is really just a small room where we keep our registers and seeds. It’s nothing special to look at. We spend most of our time out on the land anyway. When the harvest comes, the whole village seems to get involved. It gets very dusty and loud with the tractors going back and forth. We don’t have any big corporate goals. We just want to make sure our kids can go to school and that the crops don't fail next season. Sometimes we have meetings that go on for hours because nobody can agree on which seeds to buy for the winter. It’s a messy way to run a business, but it’s our way. We’re just trying to make the most of what we have here in Alkuti. It’s hard work, and my hands are always stained with soil, but it feels right to be doing this with people you’ve known your whole life.
