Vikas Grinding Centre

Our place is 36, Kamal Estate, which is right on Uttam Dairy Road. It’s a busy street and you can often smell the bakery nearby or see the milk trucks passing by. Vikas Grinding Centre is a specialized kind of shop. We spend most of our time grinding down metal parts to get them to the right size or finish. This means there is a lot of fine dust in the air and a constant high-pitched sound from the wheels spinning. We all wear masks and ear protection, but you still feel the vibration in your hands at the end of the shift. The shop isn't very big, so we have to be careful about where we stack things so nobody trips. We have a few old wooden benches where we check the pieces against the gauges. It takes a steady hand and a lot of patience to do this kind of work right. Sometimes a piece isn't coming out quite right and we have to spend an hour just figuring out why the machine is slightly off. The lighting is a bit yellow and dim in some corners, but we have bright spots over the actual work areas. People from around the estate stop by to drop off small batches of parts, and we usually have a quick chat before they head back to their own shops. It’s a small, tight-knit kind of operation we have going here, and it keeps us on our toes.
