Umesh Engineering Corporation is tucked away in Goswami Vando on Gheekanta Road. It’s a very old part of the city. We are quite close to Madhuram Cinema, so we always know what movie is playing by the posters nearby. The building has a lot of character, which is a polite way of saying it’s quite old and the walls are a bit uneven. We do engineering work here, mostly small-scale stuff and repairs. The workshop has that smell of cut metal and coolant. We’ve been at this address for a long time. The narrow lanes of the vando make it a bit tricky for big deliveries, but we manage. It’s a tight-knit spot. Neighbors look out for each other. Inside, it’s a mix of old machines and some newer tools. We spend our hours measuring, cutting, and grinding. It’s not a quiet job. The noise from the cinema crowds mixes with the sound of our work in the evenings. We don't have a receptionist. If you walk in, you'll probably find one of us with a mask on or holding a wrench. We just handle the jobs as they come in. Some days it’s quiet, and other days we can’t keep up. Gheekanta Road is always a mess with traffic, but it’s home for us. We drink a lot of chai from the stall around the corner. It’s just a regular local workshop. The door sticks a little when it rains, but we're used to it.
