We are tucked away behind the Dariapur Tower in Menwad. It’s a bit of a maze back here if you aren’t used to the streets. We do engineering work, mostly making parts and fixing things that people bring in. The machines are loud, so we usually have to talk a bit louder to be heard over the hum. It’s a dusty place because of all the metal work, but that’s how a shop is supposed to look. My hands are usually covered in some kind of grease by noon. We’ve got the regular tools and some older machines that still run better than the new ones. Being in Menwad, we know most of the guys in the other shops around us. We share tools sometimes or help each other out when a job is too big for one person. The tower is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. We don't have a big sign out front, just the work we do. It’s not a corporate office with air conditioning. We have big open doors to let the breeze in, though in summer it’s just hot air. We start the engines early and usually keep going until we're tired. It’s steady work. We don't worry about much else besides getting the parts right. It’s just how we’ve always done it here behind the tower. We just keep at it and hope the power stays on.
