Shankar Furniture House

Finding us can be a little tricky because we are on the first floor of the Shree Sharanya Industrial Estate. It’s right behind the Sarvoday Hotel. If you see the hotel, you just need to head around the back to find the entrance. It is an industrial area, so there are a lot of trucks moving around during the day. The stairs are a bit narrow, so moving the big sofas up and down takes some work. We spend most of our time here amidst the smell of sawdust and varnish. The space is filled with tables, beds, and cupboards that we are putting together. It’s not the kind of place with air conditioning or soft music. We usually have a radio playing in the corner. Sometimes the neighbors from the other units come by to chat. We have been in this estate for several years. The windows stay open to let the air in while we work. It’s a bit cluttered with wood planks and tools lying around on the floor. We just do the work as it comes. It's mostly just us and a few helpers making sure the joints are tight and the polish is dry. You’ll find us here from morning until the sun goes down. It’s just an honest day's work in a busy part of town. No fancy showrooms here, just a lot of furniture and hard work.
