Purushottam Rice Mill

Purushottam Rice Mill sits on the Bavla-Dholka Road. We are right by the Vallabh Nagar Society in Bavla. It’s a pretty industrial area, and you can hear the sound of the mill running from quite a distance away. The whole place is usually covered in a fine layer of rice husk, and the smell of toasted grain is everywhere. We’ve got a large yard where the trucks pull in to drop off the raw paddy. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and moving, especially when the season is at its peak. Our office is just a small room off to the side with a couple of chairs and a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit. We don't have much in the way of comforts here. The sun gets really hot in the afternoon, and the metal roof makes the mill even warmer. Most of the men working here have been with us for a long time, so we all know the routine without having to talk about it much. We just focus on the machines and making sure the rice is coming out right. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill in Gujarat, we just want to get through the day's work and make sure the bags are loaded for the morning transport. It’s noisy, dusty, and hard work, but it’s what keeps this place going. We just take things one truckload at a time.
