Prashant Engineering Co.

If you look for Plot No. 4/1/A in Phase-1 of the GIDC in Vatva, you will find the doors to Prashant Engineering Co. open most days of the week. We have been in this part of the industrial estate for years, watching the other shops change hands while we stay the same. The roof leaks a tiny bit when there is a heavy storm, but we just put a bucket under it and keep going. There is a lot of heavy lifting involved in what we do, so everyone here is pretty tired by the time five o'clock rolls around. We have a small sink in the back where we wash the grease off our hands. The soap never quite gets everything, but we don't mind much. The air is always a bit thick with the smell of machine oil. We don't have a website or any of that stuff; people usually just find us by word of mouth or by seeing the sign while driving past. It is a very simple operation. We have a few old chairs for visitors, but they are mostly used for holding piles of manuals. The lighting is a bit dim in some corners, so we use portable lamps when we need to see something close up. It is a place where we just get on with things without making a big fuss about it.
