Mahalaxmi Engineers

Mahalaxmi Engineers is based out of Plot L-174 in the Gidc area. It’s basically a big shed where we do a lot of metal work and mechanical repairs. There’s usually some welding going on, so you have to watch your eyes if you aren’t wearing a mask. We’ve got a couple of lathes and some heavy tools that have been with us since we opened. It’s greasy work, and my hands are rarely clean by the time I head home. We take on all sorts of engineering tasks, mostly stuff that other people bring in because they can't fix it themselves. It’s about figuring out how things fit together and making parts that actually work. We don't have a receptionist, so if the phone rings, whoever is closest to the office area picks it up. The floor is concrete and stays cold in the winter, but we keep moving to stay warm. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop around, just the one that gets the job done without too much fuss. Sometimes we have to wait a week for parts to arrive from the city, which slows us down, but that's just the reality of it. We take pride in just being able to look at a machine and know what’s wrong with it. It’s a good trade to be in, even with the noise and the metal shavings that get into everything.
