Mahalaxmi Engineering Works

Our workshop is in the Shyamlal Khokhawala Building. We are right there at the Mendikuwa Cross Road in Shahpur. It is an old building, and you can hear the machines running from the street. We do all kinds of engineering work, mostly small jobs that the big factories won't take. There is always a smell of oil and burnt metal in the air here. We have a few old lathes and some welding equipment that have seen better days but still work perfectly fine. Most of the guys working here have been with me for years. We don't wear uniforms or have fancy titles; we just get our hands dirty and fix things. Shahpur is a crowded place, and sometimes getting materials delivered to the cross road is a real headache because of the narrow lanes. We spend a lot of time measuring parts and grinding down metal until it fits just right. It is noisy and hot, especially in the summer months, but we have a couple of fans that keep the air moving. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure the parts we make are solid and do what they are supposed to do for the people who pay us. When we finish a long day, we usually sit on the steps outside for a bit before locking up and heading home. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do best.
