H A Kachwala & Sons is tucked away in Kumbhar Lane, right in the Kalupur area. Near the Sakarkhan Masjid, our shop is number 1722. You aren't far from us if you know the Kalupur Tower. This part of the city is very old and the lanes are quite narrow. Crowds of people, carts, and the smell of the market are always there. For generations, we’ve been here. Long before I did, my father and grandfather worked in this same spot. An air-conditioned modern store isn't what we have. Among the stock is where we sit in this traditional setup. Various things that people in the old city need daily are what we sell. With the call to prayer from the masjid and the constant chatter of the street, it’s a noisy place. All the other shopkeepers around here are people we know. When someone needs change or a hand with a heavy load, we help each other out. It’s not a fancy business, but it’s ours. Ledgers and pens are what we use mostly, not computers. Because they know we've been here forever and aren't going anywhere, people come to us. Finding us if it's your first time is a bit of a maze, but just ask anyone in Kumbhar Lane for the Kachwala shop. They will show you the way. To help anyone who is thirsty, we try to keep a pot of fresh water outside.
