Ganesh Paver Block

Ganesh Paver Block is located in Shilaj, right near the Sardar Patel Ring Road. We’ve been here for a while, making those concrete stones you see on driveways and footpaths. It’s dusty work and our clothes are always covered in grey powder by noon. The yard is tucked in near Kk Patel, and if you aren’t looking for it, you might drive right past. We don't have any big neon signs or anything fancy. My brother and I start the machines early when it’s still cool out. The noise is quite loud, so we usually just point at things instead of talking. We have stacks of different colors, though grey is what most people want. Sometimes the edges aren't perfectly smooth because of how the molds work, but they stay strong once they are in the ground. We don't have a computer for the orders, just an old ledger we write in. When the rain comes, we have to cover everything with blue tarps to keep things dry. Customers come by in their small trucks and we help them load up the blocks. It’s hard on the back, but it’s what we do. We’ve seen this part of the city grow so much lately. There used to be just fields, now it’s all houses. We try to keep enough stock so people don't have to wait. It’s a simple setup, just some machines and a bunch of hard-working guys. We drink our tea standing up and get back to it.
