Amit Anaj Bhantar

Amit Anaj Bhantar is a local shop at 264, Shahgadhia Pole. We are right on Kalupur Road in the Kalupur area of Ahmedabad. The pin code is 380001. This part of the city is famous for being really packed and busy, and our street is no different. We deal with a lot of grain, which is what Anaj means, so there is always a bit of dust in the air and the smell of raw staples. We have big metal bins and heavy jute sacks lined up against the walls. It’s hard work moving those sacks around, especially when it’s hot outside on Kalupur Road. The shop is quite deep but narrow, which is how most buildings in Shahgadhia Pole are built. We’ve been here at this address for years. The walls have some marks from where the sacks have rubbed against them. We don't have any fancy computers, just a simple desk where we keep our accounts and a scale for weighing things out. People from all over Kalupur come here because they know we’ve been in this spot for a long time. In the afternoons, when the sun is hitting the front of the shop, we pull down the awning to get some shade. It’s a lot of physical labor, but we are used to it by now. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
