Over here in Babarpur and the area around Sikandraagra, life is mostly about the fields. We named our group Swanirbhar Farmer Producer Company Limited because we wanted to be more independent and not have to rely on middle-men for everything. Lakhmi Chand’s place in Balwant Ng is where we usually gather to talk about what needs doing next. It gets pretty loud sometimes when everyone has a different idea about when to plant or what to sell. We aren't professionals in suits, just people who have spent their whole lives with dirt under their fingernails. The office is basically just a spot to keep the registers and the seed samples. Some days it feels like we are just drowning in rules and regulations, but we get through it. We aren't trying to impress anyone with big words. We just want to make sure that the people living in this part of the world can keep their farms running. It is a slow process, and we make mistakes along the way. Sometimes the truck breaks down or the ledger doesn't balance right away, but we fix it eventually. It’s just us doing the best we can with what we have. Most of the time, we are just happy if the season goes by without any major disasters.
