Ubharta Kissan Farmer Producer Company Limited

Our little office is over at Charan Dass’s place in Dhabba. He is Hari Narain’s son and he is a good man to have in charge of the paperwork. We call ourselves Ubharta Kissan Farmer Producer Company Limited because it sounds like we are trying to move up in the world, even though we are just a bunch of neighbors. Some of us grow wheat and others do mustard or whatever fits the soil that year. The soil in Dhabba is okay but you really have to work it right to get anything back. We decided to group up because the big buyers do not really listen to just one person. Now that we are together, it feels like we have a bit more of a voice in things. It is not always easy and we spend a lot of time sitting around talking about tractor repairs or where to get the best seeds this year. Sometimes the electricity goes out while we are trying to fill out forms and we just light a candle and keep going. We do not have much in the way of fancy stuff. It is just practical. We care about the land because it is all we have. The winters can be cold but we stay busy. We are not experts in suits, just people with dirt under our fingernails. We hope this company helps our kids stay in farming too. That is pretty much all there is to it.
