Working in Sanjay Place is always a bit chaotic because it is the main business area here in Agra. Modecraft The Art Of Hair Design is tucked away in the basement of the Idea showroom building. You have to look for the stairs near Hotel Metro to find us. Since we are in the basement, it stays a bit cooler than the street outside, which is a relief when the Agra heat gets bad in May. We focus mostly on hair. Cutting, washing, and trying to make people look decent before they go to their offices. The shop has a lot of mirrors and the floor usually has some hair on it because we are busy. We use basic tools that we’ve had for a while. It is not a place with shiny gold walls or anything like that. We just have some black chairs and a few sinks in the back. The lighting is okay, though I sometimes wish we had another window. My hands usually smell like shampoo by the end of the shift. People from the offices nearby drop in during their lunch break for a quick trim. We don't do much talking unless the customer starts it. We just get the scissors out and do what is needed. It’s a steady job in a busy basement. We’ve seen a lot of people come and go from this building over the years. Some days are slow, but mostly we stay on our feet.
