Gauri Beauty Parlour

Our shop is on M G Road in Agra, which is probably one of the busiest streets you can find. We are very close to the Rawali Mahadev Mandir. You can often hear the bells ringing from the temple throughout the day, which is actually quite nice to listen to. The shop is small and a bit cramped because the rent on MG Road is so high these days. We have squeezed in a couple of stations for hair and beauty work. It’s mostly women who come in after they’ve finished their prayers at the mandir or while they are out shopping in the market nearby. We keep things very simple here. There are no fancy lights or expensive products on display. We use what works and what people around here can afford. The floor is made of old stone, and it stays relatively cool even when it’s boiling outside in May. Sometimes the traffic is so loud we have to shout to be heard over the trucks and buses. We’ve had the same mirrors for years, and they have a few chips around the edges. We don't have a big staff, just me and my sister-in-law. We handle everything from eyebrows to hair buns for parties. It’s a steady life. We see the same people every week, and we hear all the news about the families in the neighborhood. It’s more like a meeting place than just a shop for the ladies.
